Tasmania’s Favourite Seaside Shack
Nestled in a village of old fisherman shacks, Captains Rest is one of Australia’s best Airbnb’s. Thoughtfully decorated, this sets the bar high. Perfect in any season, we visited in Winter. The grey weather outside with the fireplace on, this is cosiest cabin.
Located on Tasmania’s remote west coast, the isolated town of Strahan is a relaxing escape.
Why We Loved It..
It’s romantic - a bathtub for two & fireplace, it’s a special place to be.
The local gang of ducks - your host will leave you a jar of oats to keep them coming back.
It’s peaceful - a private jetty to enjoy the landscape, these shacks are tucked away in a quiet part of town.
It feel’s remote, but you’re a 5minute drive from town, making it easy to enjoy the local cafes and restaurants.
What To Do Nearby..
Captain’s Rest is an experience and a special place you’ll want to make the most of. We recommend stocking up on local supplies, checking in & enjoying the shack.
Strahan is also a great place to explore the Gordon River with plenty of cruise operators running tours in the area.
How To Get There..
Strahan is quite remote with 2 main roads in and out. Surrounded by the Franklin-Gordon wild rivers, the west coast is the wettest part of Tasmania.
If you’re coming from the North, it’s a 2.5 hour drive from Devonport (or a 2 hour drive from Cradle Mountain).
If you’re coming from Hobart, it’s a 4.5 hour drive.
Captains Rest sleeps 2 and is $750AUD a night.
Featured in renowned publications like Vogue and Vanity Fair, Captains Rest has been thoughtfully designed by interior designer Sarah Andrews.
